Velvet was a brave and loyal Black Labrador Retriever and shepherd mixed breed who became a hero for her role in rescuing stranded climbers on Mount Hood. She was trained as a search and rescue dog and worked with her handler, Jeff Winchell, for over a decade. Velvet’s courage and dedication to her job made her a beloved and celebrated member of the search and rescue community.
