Sweetbryar is a distinguished small select kennel located on a picturesque 10-acre property in southeast Victoria, just a short drive from Melbourne. The kennel is not only dedicated to breeding high-quality Bullmastiffs but also encompasses a charming vineyard that shares its name, Sweetbryar. The name is inspired by the wild Sweetbryar Roses of England, reflecting the kennel’s commitment to natural beauty and quality. Since its establishment in 2004, Sweetbryar has focused on breeding Bullmastiffs with an emphasis on quality over quantity, ensuring that each puppy is raised in a loving environment and placed in carefully selected homes.
The foundation of Sweetbryar’s Bullmastiff lineage began with Blakrouge Blushin Bryde, affectionately known as Blush, who was acquired in 2002. Blush’s legacy continues through her descendants, including Cameo, Mya, and Stormy, with Cameo still being a cherished member of the family. The kennel is home to a variety of animals, including a British Short Hair cat named Boo, a Bulldog named Tilly, and several farm animals, creating a vibrant and nurturing atmosphere. The owner, Shelley Johnson, is passionate about showing her dogs and has successfully obtained championship titles, further enhancing the reputation of Sweetbryar in the canine community.
At Sweetbryar, the philosophy revolves around treating dogs as integral family members. The dogs are raised indoors, enjoying the comforts of home, and are never confined to kennels. This approach fosters strong bonds between the dogs and their human family, ensuring they receive love and attention at all times. Sweetbryar is a proud member of the Bullmastiff Club of Victoria (BMCV) and DOGS VIC, providing puppy buyers with a free membership to the BMCV, a comprehensive puppy pack, and 24-hour phone support. As Sweetbryar looks forward to expanding its Bullmastiff family with new additions from Denmark, the commitment to breeding quality and soundness remains steadfast, promising a bright future for this beloved breed.
