Jirralea is a distinguished kennel located in the scenic Huon Valley, south of Hobart, Tasmania, specializing in the breeding of Papillons. As the only registered breeders of this charming breed in Tasmania, Jirralea is committed to maintaining the highest standards of breeding practices. With a focus on quality over quantity, the kennel typically produces only 3 to 4 litters per year, ensuring that each puppy receives the attention and care it deserves. The kennel is operated by Helen Sorensen, who has over 24 years of experience in exhibiting Papillons and 20 years in breeding them.
Helen’s journey in the world of dog breeding began in the 1970s and early 1980s with Silky Terriers and Miniature Pinschers. Her passion for Papillons was ignited in 1985 when she acquired her first Papillon, Aust Champ Alljo Snowflake, from renowned breeders Cath Wookey and Royce Walters of Alljo Kennels. This pivotal moment led her to dedicate her expertise and love for the breed to Jirralea, where she continues to contribute to the Papillon community through responsible breeding and participation in dog shows.
At Jirralea, the focus is not only on breeding healthy and well-tempered Papillons but also on fostering a deep connection with each dog. The kennel prides itself on its small-scale operation, which allows for personalized care and socialization of the puppies. Jirralea is a haven for Papillon enthusiasts and a trusted source for those looking to welcome a new furry family member into their home.
