Deloraine Veterinary Centre, established in 1985 by Dr. Roger Blackwell, has become a cornerstone of veterinary care in the Meander Valley region of Tasmania. Originally purchased from Dr. Pat Hodgetts, the clinic has expanded significantly from its humble beginnings as a one-vet practice to a thriving facility with a dedicated team of nine veterinarians and twelve veterinary nurses and support staff. The clinic’s growth has been complemented by the establishment of the Westbury Veterinary Centre in 1992, collectively known as Meander Valley Veterinary Service, which has allowed them to better serve a diverse clientele across the north and northwest of Tasmania.
Located on Beefeater Street in Deloraine, the veterinary centre boasts a modern facility equipped with advanced diagnostic equipment, enabling comprehensive care for a wide range of species, including companion animals, horses, and cattle. The clinic’s larger space includes specialized areas for equine care, such as horse day yards and stables, which facilitate the treatment of larger animals while minimizing travel costs for clients. This commitment to accessibility and convenience underscores the centre’s dedication to providing high-quality veterinary services tailored to the needs of the local community.
Deloraine Veterinary Centre prides itself on its philosophy of continuous professional development and specialized care. The staff members are encouraged to pursue various interests within the veterinary field, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of veterinary medicine. As an accredited teaching hospital, the clinic also plays a vital role in the education of future veterinarians by hosting final-year veterinary interns from universities across Australia. This commitment to education and excellence in veterinary care reflects the centre’s mission to provide the highest standard of service to all animals and their owners in the region.
