Chanpema Kennels

Detailed Information

Chanpema Kennels is a distinguished breeding and exhibiting establishment specializing in Labrador Retrievers, particularly the rare Chocolate variety. Founded in 1995, the kennel has a rich history marked by significant achievements, including the title of the first chocolate Labrador in South Australia, CH ELORAC BORIS BROWN. Since adopting the CHANPEMA prefix in 1998, the kennel has focused on breeding high-quality Labradors, successfully titling numerous dogs, including 17 Labradors bred in-house and 6 of the coveted chocolate color. The kennel’s commitment to excellence is evident in its breeding practices, which involve careful selection and the introduction of dogs from reputable kennels to enhance their bloodlines.

In addition to Labradors, Chanpema Kennels expanded its offerings in 2004 by introducing Border Terriers to their breeding program. The first Border Terrier, Ralph, was acquired from Apamura Kennels, and the kennel has since added two more dogs from Stormvale Kennels to strengthen their breeding lines. The kennel has successfully titled several Border Terriers, including their first champion, Ch Stormvale Borda Bardot, in 2006. This diversification reflects the kennel’s dedication to promoting quality breeds and their passion for canine excellence.

The philosophy of Chanpema Kennels revolves around a deep love for dogs and a commitment to responsible breeding practices. The kennel is family-owned, with the name derived from the initials of the Smith family members: Peter, Anne, Chevaun, and Mathew. This familial approach fosters a nurturing environment for the dogs, ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve. Chanpema Kennels not only aims to produce champion dogs but also strives to contribute positively to the dog breeding community, promoting the health and well-being of all breeds under their care.
